Cultivate > Illuminate – West Kowloon Competition, Hong Kong
The Hong Kong Government held an international concept plan competition for an integrated arts, cultural and entertainment district at the reclaimed land in West Kowloon.
The concept is to use “cultivation of pearls” as a metaphor for the nurturing of art and culture. The rhythm of the eastern half represent the consistent effort and the artificial beach represent the tidal action, both required for the growth of the pearl. The western half houses most of the new arts and cultural facilities while the dramatic built form resembles light rays reflected from the shining pearl to illuminate the world.
